WARRIOR WEEKLY TRIVIA: The answer in last week’s trivia question of who defeated the Warriors in their 2009 state championship game was inaccurate. So take a guess again as to who defeated the Warriors in 2009 and the WW can guarantee it is right as the IGHSAU confirmed the accuracy of the answer. (The Warrior Weekly Trivia answer is located as the final bullet in the "Did You Know Section”

A good Monday Warrior Fans. It was a great week to be a Warrior supporter as this season’s winter season culminated in a State Championship Runner-Up finish by the Norwalk Boys Basketball Team. A third time matchup with Little Hawkeye Conference foe Oskaloosa in the state championship game ended with the Indians winning the rubber match of this year’s series 48-44 in a very exciting and competitive game. Congratulations to Noah Schumacher (Improv) and Asa Schuemann (Expository) who both earned top scores of "1" at the IHSSA Individual Speech Contest in Nevada on Saturday. The WW would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our volunteers who assisted with a variety of responsibilities during the course of our winter season. Thank you so much for giving back to our participants and for your service. THANK YOU!!! We now turn our attention to the spring season as all of our spring programs began official practice today except for Girls Soccer which will begin official practice next Monday. The WW will be on a little break for the next two weeks as spring break begins next Monday and a scheduling conflict the following week will prevent the WW from being distributed.

Boys Basketball

The Warriors advanced to their second state championship game in Norwalk history and unfortunately for the second time the Warriors finished as State Runner-Up Champions but in this most recent championship game the Warriors played themselves into a position in which a state championship was within their grasp in the last minute of the game. Norwalk led at the half over LHC foe Oskaloosa 31-30 in an exciting first half before the second half turned into a defensive grind as the Warriors trailed after three quarters 39-38 and then fell behind 46-40 midway through the fourth but Norwalk wouldn’t give up trailing by two under a minute to play with chances to put themselves in a position to win the game but it was not to be as the Indians made some clutch free throws down the end to seal the victory. Jr. Bowen Born scored a team high 26 pts to lead Norwalk ending an impressive state tournament performance in which he was selected as the captain of the all-tournament team. Born scored a team high 40 pts in the Warriors first round victory over Ballard 81-39 becoming only the third player in Class 3A tournament history to score 40 points in a state tournament game, while Jr. Tyler Johnson added 16. In their semi-final matchup victory over undefeated Clear Lake 61-54, Born dropped in a team high 32 pts. to lead the Warriors into the championship game setting up their third matchup of the season with Osky. Norwalk ends the season with an overall record of 22 wins and 5 losses and a Little Hawkeye Conference Championship. Congratulations to those Warriors who earned Little Hawkeye All-Conference honors this past week. Jr. Bowen Born and Jr. Tyler Johnson were both First Team selections while Sr. Tyler Endres was as 2nd Team selection. Sr. Carson Raper and Jr. Scott Anderson earned Honorable Mention honors. Congratulations Warriors on a great season and an exciting tournament ride.

Success in all of Norwalk athletics & activities is the ultimate goal, but the lesson learned in the journey to success is what we value more than wins, losses, or ratings. The lessons we teach and what the participants learn is what prepares them for success in life. The performance of our coaches, sponsors, and directors of our programs is more dependent on how they perform in the journey with those participants and not in the end result.
